Bed Bugs

Tiny bloodsuckers that love to cuddle (with you, while you sleep)!

Physical characteristics

Bed bugs are small, flat insects with an oval shape and brownish color. Adult specimens reach a length of 4 to 5 mm. After feeding, their body enlarges and takes on a more reddish hue. They have no wings and cannot fly, but they move quickly on surfaces.

Biology and behavior

These insects are primarily active at night and feed on the blood of humans and animals. They can live for several months without feeding. Females lay hundreds of eggs in their lifetime, which hatch in about 10 days. Bed bugs prefer to hide in cracks and crevices near people's sleeping areas.

Harm

Although they do not transmit diseases, bed bug bites can cause itching, swelling, and allergic reactions. Large infestations lead to insomnia, anxiety, and stress. Additionally, they can leave stains on bedding and mattresses.

What you can do

Regularly check the bed and surrounding furniture for signs of bed bugs. Use protective covers for mattresses and pillows. When traveling, carefully inspect hotel rooms and your luggage. If you notice signs of infestation, contact professionals immediately.
