Flies

Annoying guests at every party (especially if there's food)!

Physical characteristics

The house fly (Musca domestica) is the most common species in Bulgaria. It is grayish-black, about 6-7 mm long. It has large compound eyes and two pairs of wings, with the hind pair modified into halteres for balance.

Biology and behavior

Flies reproduce quickly in organic waste. A female can lay up to 500 eggs in her lifetime. Development from egg to adult takes about 7-10 days under optimal conditions. They are active during the day and are attracted to odors of food and waste.

Harm

Flies are not only annoying but also potentially dangerous disease carriers. They can transmit over 100 pathogens, causing diseases like Salmonella, E. coli, and cholera. They contaminate food and surfaces through contact and by depositing saliva and excrement.

What you can do

Maintain good hygiene by regularly disposing of garbage and cleaning food preparation areas. Use tightly lidded trash cans. Install screens on windows and doors. Store food in closed containers. You can use sticky fly traps or electric fly zappers in problem areas.

Professional control

Our approach to fly control includes identifying and eliminating breeding sites. We apply targeted insecticides in high-activity areas. We use baits and traps to reduce the population. For severe infestations, we can apply residual sprays on surfaces where flies land. We also offer advice on sanitation measures and environmental modifications for long-term prevention.
