Mosquitoes

Tiny bloodsuckers with a loud buzz!

Physical characteristics

Mosquitoes are small flying insects with long legs and a slender body. Females have an elongated proboscis for sucking blood. Their size varies from 3 to 9 mm.

Biology and behavior

Several species of mosquitoes are found in Bulgaria, including Culex pipiens, Aedes albopictus, and Anopheles maculipennis. They breed in stagnant water, with females laying their eggs on the water's surface. They are primarily active at night and at dusk.

Harm

Besides the annoying bite and itch, mosquitoes can transmit various diseases. Culex pipiens can transmit West Nile virus, Aedes albopictus - chikungunya, and Anopheles maculipennis is a potential carrier of malaria. Although the risk of these diseases in Bulgaria is relatively low, mosquitoes remain a serious nuisance.

What you can do

Eliminate sources of stagnant water around your home, such as overturned containers, old tires, or clogged gutters. Use repellents when outdoors, especially at dusk. Install or repair screens on windows and doors. Wear long sleeves and pants when in areas with many mosquitoes.

Professional control

Our approach to mosquito control includes comprehensive measures. We conduct a thorough inspection of the property to identify breeding sites. We apply larvicides in stagnant waters that cannot be removed. We use ULV (ultra-low volume) spraying to treat large areas. We also offer barrier treatments around buildings and in yards for long-term protection. Our specialists can develop a customized control plan tailored to the specific needs of your property.
