German Cockroach

They survive nuclear explosions, but stand no chance against your slipper (and Biogard)!

Physical characteristics

The German cockroach is small, about 1.5 cm long. Its body is light brown to brown with two dark stripes parallel to the head. It has well-developed wings covering the entire body but rarely flies. The antennae are as long as the body. Females have a wider and rounder abdomen than males.

Biology and behavior

This is the most common domestic cockroach. It prefers warm and humid places, especially in kitchens and bathrooms. It is omnivorous but particularly attracted to greasy and sweet foods. The female carries the egg capsule until hatching, which speeds up reproduction. One capsule contains up to 40 eggs, and a female can produce up to 8 capsules in her lifetime. The life cycle is about 100 days. They are primarily active at night and are extremely fast.

Harm

German cockroaches are serious disease carriers, including Salmonella, staphylococci, and intestinal parasites. They contaminate food and surfaces with excrement and saliva. The allergens they release are among the most common causes of asthma and allergies in urban environments. They can damage electronics, books, and clothes. Additionally, large populations leave a characteristic unpleasant odor.

What you can do

Maintain impeccable hygiene in the kitchen and bathroom. Store food in tightly sealed containers and do not leave dirty dishes overnight. Regularly clean under the refrigerator and stove. Seal all cracks and openings in walls and around pipes. Use sticky traps to monitor the infestation. You can apply boric acid or silica gel in cracks and crevices inaccessible to children and pets.

Professional control

Our specialists use an integrated approach to control German cockroaches. We apply highly effective gel baits in strategic locations. We also use powder insecticides in electrical outlets and voids. If necessary, we perform specialized spraying against German cockroaches (ULV treatment). We also offer long-term monitoring and prevention programs, including regular inspections and treatments.
