Storage Mites
Microscopic invaders that turn your supplies into their home!
Physical characteristics
Storage mites are microscopic arthropods, 0.3-0.5 mm in size. They have an oval, translucent body with four pairs of legs. Their color varies from pale yellow to light brown.
Biology and behavior
They prefer humid environments and feed on molds, fungi, and organic matter in stored products. They reproduce rapidly under favorable conditions, with a female laying up to 800 eggs. Their life cycle from egg to adult takes about 2 weeks under optimal conditions.
Harm
They contaminate and damage stored food products, especially grains, dried fruits, and spices. They can cause allergic reactions in humans, including respiratory problems and skin rashes. In large quantities, they impart an unpleasant odor and taste to infested products.
What you can do
Maintain low humidity in storage areas (below 65%). Store products in airtight containers. Regularly check and rotate stock. Thoroughly clean and dry storage areas. Use silica gel or other desiccants in problem areas.
Professional control
Our approach includes a thorough inspection and identification of infested areas. We apply specialized acaricides safe for food premises. We use methods for humidity and temperature control. We offer monitoring and prevention programs, including installing UV traps and dust barriers. We advise on improving storage practices for long-term control.
